birth doula services
A Doula is a servant or person of support. The Doula may have the role of supporting the family through labor, as a birth doula or during the vulnerable time after birth as a postpartum doula.
Doulas offer a range of non-medical support. She is educated and knowledgeable in the stages of labor and the needs of a postpartum family. She stands as an advocate for the mother’s needs before, during and after labor, always looking out for the safety of mother and infant. The doula compliments the role of the woman’s partner by giving suggestions, relief and support to this individual.
The birth doula values the birth experience and memory for all individuals involved in the journey of labor, focusing on the mother’s. She understands the process and stages of labor, and is experienced and trained in labor support. The doula offers non-medical guidance throughout the birth, suggests postures and movement to ease physical discomfort, and provides emotional support and visualizations for pain management. Although the doula does not make decisions for her clients, she acts as a liaison between the couple and the medical staff while always supporting the informed choices of her clients.
